PLENTY OF HORSES FOR LEXINGTON Heavy Demand for Stalls for Coming Fall Racing Much Interest in Blue Grass Fair LOUISVILLE Ky August 13 In an effort to save stabling room at the Lexington course for only horses which will be ready to race at the com ¬ ing autumn meeting Robert L Baker who guides the destinies of that track for the Kentucky Jockey Club paid a visit to this city today to consult with the owners and trainers whose charges are summering at Churchill Downs and Douglas Park He told them that owing to the many applications for stalls that he had received it will be neces ¬ sary to look after tlie wants of the horssmen with fit horses first and he explained to them the necessity of leaving their yearlings nnd older thor ¬ oughbreds which are on the shelf either here or at Latonia while the Lexington meeting is on onThis This is the first time In the history of the Lexington track at a fall meeting that the demand for stalls has been greater than the supply said Colonel Baker and this despite the fact that we have only a seven days meeting Incidentally it is fhe first time that the easterners have paid much attention to us in the fall but this year t have received requests from a number of owners in that section who have cligibles in the Breeders Futurity or who plan to nominate horses In the 5000 added Lexington Cup Handicap HandicapMore More horses than ever before have summered at the Lexington track this year and they are all fit to run right now The Blue Grass Fair Is responsible for a lot of them remaining in this section as it will be practically a regular race meeting and the purses there will be large enough to interest the owners of the better class of horses So great have been the applications for stable room for the fair that several owners had to take stalls outside the track which were rented for them by Sewell Combs who is looking after the running races in connection with the affair affairWilliam William C Baass of this city has just returned from a trip to Havana Cuba and while there he met Frank Union and II D Brown both of whom are busily engaged in looking after the many im ¬ provements which are being made on Oriental Park Wlien they finish there will be few race tracks anywhere thai will be equal to the Havana plant said Baass The clubhouse is being enlarged by the addition of a number of living rooms and the grounds arc being beautified with more shrubbery and trees The track proper is also coming in for a lot of consideration and it no doubt will be faster than ever next winter
