VALERIE WEST was a forward contender from the start and. holding on gamely in the- final drive, outstayed ST. QUENTIN. The latter, away slowly, closed a big gap and finished gamely, but tiring in the final strides. MADAM BYNG ran well. GOLDVALE finished fast. RESIST could never get up. THE DESERT was away badly. Won easily; second and third driving. OVER THERE, showing the most speed in the going, took a quick lead and. making the pace fast, won in a canter. RECOUNT was a prominent contender throughout and, finishing gamely, held CRANK safe. The latter came through fast next to the- inside rail in the last quarter, but tired in the closing strides. ROSE DOR ran a game race. ESCOBA displayed an excellent Hash of speed between calls cm the last turn and was eased up in the last eighth. ELMENDORF could never improve his position. KASHMIR was pulled up when beaten. VANCOUVER broke down. LENA MISHA pulled up lame. CORMORAN gained steadily from a slow beginning and finished with a rush. JEAN BULLANT was hard ridden from the start and outstayed HURRY in the closing t tridrs. The latter was shulllcd back on the turn out of the backstretch, but. finished fast and gamely. LOVERS LANE II. showed the most speed for a half mile and tired when challenged. AMERICAN SOLDIER ran well. HURRY closed a gap. THE TRUMP led for awhile on sufferance and quit badly in the last quarter. CAMOUFLEUR, on the inside all the way, passed TKTLEY under hard pressure in the last eighth. The latter set the early pace, but tired in the final drive.
