EMPIRE CITY STAKES CLOSE TODAY NEW YORK, N. Y., August 27. The stakes to be run during the autumn meeting of the Empire City Racing Association, October 13 to 25 inclusive, are due to close today, August 28. They are ten in number as follows: For three-year-olds and over Columbus Handicap, one mile and an eighth, ,500 added; Victoria Handicap, one mile and a quarter. ,000 added; Kings Bridge Highweight Handicap, about three-quarters of a mile. ,000 added; Fordham Selling StaTses, one mile and seventy yards, ,500 added; Bedford Selling Stakes, about three-quarters of a mile, ,500 added. For all ages Westchester Handicap, one mile, ,000 added. For three-year-olds New Rochelle Handicap, one mile and a sixteenth, ,500 added. For two-year-olds Autumn Days Handicap; about three-quarters of a mile;- ,500 added; Pelham Bay Handicap, five and a half furlongs, ,000 added, and Rainbow Selling Stakes, about three-quarters of a mile, ,500 added: Empire Citys meeting is held during the period which was formerly allotted to Morris Park. Westchester County, always picturesque, is extremely attractive in October, when the foliage is at its best.
