WHITNEYS TRIUMPHANT DAY Takes the Nursery Handicap Stylishly with His Dr. Clark. i Makes It a Double When John P. Grier Wins Audacious in Another Fast Mile. NEW YORK. N. Y., September 10. A high-class program was decided at Belmont Park today. Tiie Nursery Handicap, for two-year-olds, at three quarters, fell to II. P. Whitneys Dr. Clark, which came from behind to win going away. It was worth .000 . to the winner. The Coe entry, Cleopatra and Star Court, ruled favorite on the strength of the formers good showing in the Champagne Stakes, but she was outrun throughout the race today, winding up in second place, with Captain Alcock third. Audacious repeated his recent good race to win the Pershing Handicap, which was at a mile for three-year-olds. Audacious showed great speed from the rise of the barrier, and after withstanding several challenges had plenty left at the end. Twelve were withdrawn in the first race out of twenty-one named to start, Alvord proving the winner from Miss Kruter and Uncles Lassie. A R. Coes Stepson won the second, with the odds-on choice AVar Rocket third in a slowly run race. Sundial II., an ascending favorite, won the third in easy fashion, with Coaler second. The .attendance was large despite the weather, which was threatening. Jockey Nolan left for Havre do Grace today to ride A. II. Diaz entry in the two-year-old stake there tomorrow, after which he will return to Belmont Park. II. P. AVhitneys John P. Grier made it a double for that owner today by taking the sixtli race over the five and a half furlongs straightaway course. The AVhitney colt appeared lieaten midway of the stretch, but finished fast and gamely to win going away. AAm. Claire has been made permanent superintendent of the Saratoga track. R. E. AVatkins, who has been in Kentucky for the past week, was an arrival today.
