MORE WONDERFUL ENGLISH PRICES Sledgemere and Greenal Yearlings Break All Yearling Price Records and Averages. The third day of the Doncaster sales saw sixty-five yearlings sold for 75,050, an average of ,30S. The black colt by Swynford Blut Tit was. generally conceded to be the best of the Sledgemere batch. He is a great slashing youngster, of wonderful power and scope, and put in at 0,000 there was a keen duel between Lord Glanely and Alec Taylor for possession. It was not until 7,500 had been bid that Lord Glanely beat the Manton trainer. When the previous record of 0,000 was topped there was some hand-clapping, and this was resumed when the hammer fell, on Lord Glanelys final bid. It was a remarkable price for a yearling, and, of course, beats the previous best, which was when Mr. Sievjer gave 0,000 for Sceptre. The latter was cheap at the price, and it remains to be seen what this son of Swynford will accomplish on the race tracks. The Sledgemere band made a wonderful sale. The ten colts made 83,500 and the six fillies sold for 23,000. The aggregate for the sixteen bands was therefore 00,500, showing an average of 9,150. It was indeed a day of records, for, in addition to the previous best individual price being .beaten, the late Duke of Westminsters record average of 8,040 also went by the board. The sales were less in volume on the fourth and last day, though Sir Gilbert Greenals band of six sold for 06,250, an average of 7,707, not far behind the Sledgemere high mark. The fourth days total for fifty-nine yearlings was 97,725, an average of ,029. The grand average for the four days was ,117,250 for 230 yearlings, an average of over ,S57. In 1913, when the last great sale was held, the total was ,107,290. with an average price for 321 yearlings of .14S.
