LATONIA RAGING SPIRITED Jorice Wins Main Contest After a Brilliant Performance. 1 1 1 Matinee Idol Another to Score in Close Finish Robinsons Riding a Feature. 1 i LATONIA, Ky., October 2. Mose Goldblatts colors figured conspicuously in Latonia racing this afternoon when representatives from ins stable accounted for both feature races, the double victory being achieved by Jorice and Matinee Idol. Both were ridden by Robinson, and their success was in a measure due to his intelligent riding. Jorice gained her victory after a strenuous stretch drive, in which she just succeeded in outstaying the vastly improved George Starr, her margin over liim at the end being a scant head, with Rapid Day only a head in back of the pair. The disappointment here was American Ace, which in addition to being given a poorly judged ride lacked the high order of speed he lias been displaying in former races. Matinee Idol, like Jorice, was forced to sustain a hard last eighth drive to finish in advance of Re-galo. and the pair staged an interesting duel, with Robinsons alertness keeping Matinee Idol in front by a neck until the finish was passed. Todays weather was again of the midsummer variety, with the track in its best order, contributing to fast time in most of the dashes. The attendance was again of immense proportion, many deflections from the ball ground beins noted, as many of those here to witness tiie series and intended journeying to Chicago tonight took occasion to also visit the track. George M. Hendrie uncovered another first-timer thatgivcs. promise of developing into a real crack. "His "representative this afternoon was Claymore, a slashing looking youngster by Assagai Ogalala. His fast trials here were seemingly well known to most, for he ruled a favorite over some highly regarded ones, though maidens. He won with surprising ease. Humma furnished the real upset of the afternoon when he won in the opening race from B. B. Johnson after a brief stretch drive. Lyke, on B. 1$. Johnson, claimed a foul against Williams, on the winner, but it was not allowed. Mazola, which won her last race at long odds, repeated in the fifth race, but this time her backers supported here into favoritism. Ormesdale, a crack in his day, showed a return to good form and led High Cost for the entire mile after a mild drive. Ormesdale has been doing stud duty since his retirement and served about thirty mares during the last spring. Jockey Boyle had to cancel his remaining engagements after riding Loftus in the opening on account of being badly kicked on the leg while unsaddling. Kay Spence, acting for W. V. Thraves, bought Legal for the reported price of 10,000 from Williams Bros. Trainer J. Hogan was an arrival this morning with the horses Lion dOr, Merry Princess and Polka Dot. The latter will bo a starter in the Latonia Championship Stakes. Jockey "Buddy" Ensor came with the stable and the aggregation will remain until the finish of the Latonia meeting. Frank W. was claimed by F. J. Kelly for ,300 out of the fifth race. Jockey E. Pool was susiended for two days by the starter yesterday for disobedience at the post on Kingfisher.
