HOW YOU CAN LOSE ON A WINNER LAUREL, Md., October 25. Had Dominique run a dead heat in his race the other day his backers would have had lost heavily, as the rule here in dead heats is to split the mutuel pool in half and divide it among the first two. Dominiques backers would have received about .10, which would have meant a loss of about ninety cents on each two dollar ticket.. The same rule applies here in the mutuels as It would were the books on, which Is entirely against the recognized rules governing pari-mutuel betting.
