RACING ESSENTIAL TO SARATOGA NEW YORK, N. Y., -November 8. "Racing is essential to Saratoga Springs and should be fostered rather than discouraged," says the Saratoga Sun. It says: "Racing in this city, as conducted by the Saratoga Racing Association, cannot be criticised at this time. The sport as fostered by Richard T. Wilson and his associates has reached a high plane and is conducted along such lines that it has won the approbation of many citizens as well as the many visitors who come here. "Racing is essential to Saratoga Springs and the sport ought to be fostered rather than discouraged. "It is all right to talk of Saratoga as a great health resort. Nature has endowed the city with great natural attractions, including the springs and parks and the drives and beautiful trees, but these will not suilice in attracting and holding visitors. There must be something to entertain and racing is one of the pastimes that meet that requirement. It will be well for Saratogians to look after their own interests. With the exception of a few industries, racing is the sole Supnott, of . many Saratogians. The sport attracts thousands who come here to witness it, and it calls many more who are associated with the snort. Hundreds of cottages are rented during the racing season, the hotels are filled to capacity, rooming houses are filled and indirectly every merchant and business man in the city is benefited by the advent of those who arc interested in or patronize the sport. "The question of racing is one that ought to receive careful consideration from every Saratogian."
