NEW YORK RACING SEASON I Begins at Jamaica May 15 and Ends at Empire City Oct. 30. . — 4. One Hundred and Forty-Four Racing Days, Three More Than Last Year. NEW YORK. X. Y.. February IT. — According to the re-cent nMHKMMI of eastern racing dates far llir li 111 of lt3g there will ho 144 days of racing over the metropolitan tracks this year, an j increase of three over l!1!l. Tkc local season will "Hon :it Jamaica 011 May IS and will end at Empire City October BO. Jamaica is allotted two tnoro days than last year. MM being added to its spring meeting, the oilier to the fall period of racing. The third extra day sues to A MM MM I. From the time of tlie opening Initio mil at Jamaica to the -omul of taps at Empire City there will he only one open date. That is September 1. This day was left open to give horsemen time to ship their strings from Saratoga to Belmont Iark. With the exception of the throe extra days the allotment for ISM is praetically the same as last year. Following the seven days meeting of the Metropolitan lackey Club at .lamaiea Belmont Park will threw -pen its gates for eighleen racing days, and then the horses will return !o Jamaica for nine more days, from June 14 to June SB. The scene of action will then shift to Apuedwt. the popular home of the Queens County Jockey Club, where racing wi!l l e conducted from June M to July 18. Then follows the Kmpire City ineeling of -ixteen flay*, beginning July 14 and ending July 31. Then on to Saratoga, the Ascot of America. Here the thoroughbred will reign supreme for twenty-six • lavs, beginning Augu-t 2 and ending August 31. The autumn meetings will commence at Reluumt Park on September - and will continue without interruption until October 3d. Following twelve days of racing at Belmont Iark there will be thirteen ■ lays each at A«|Ueduct. Jamaica and F.mpire City in the order named. The outlook is indeed favorable for a wonderful yeai- of racing, and on all sides predictions are freely being made ihat the season of lB9g will be even more prosperous than thai of last rear. Cer-i.iin it is. the horsemen will -hare in the general prosperity, as all the New York racing aaaM -Lit ions have announced substantial increase- in the values of the stake races, and it is expected that the overnight purses will have greater monetary value: than hurt year.
