LOFT HOLDS STRONG HAND IN DERBY Donnacona and On Watch Formidable Pair for Kentuckys Famous Race — Lofts 1920 Stable. NEW rOKK. N. v., March 8.— Oaanre W. Lafl has three three -year-alda in his stable at I.eimont Iark in the hands of Max Hirsch. two of which may prove troublesome in the Kentucky Derby, the two being D .nnacona and On Watch. While On Watch has better raoinj. credentials than his stable companion, there are many shrewd judges of horses who are of the opinion that Donnacona will prove the better of the two M a three-year-old. The latter is a royally-bred son of Irince Palatine Kililonan. by I„idas. IMince Palatine was a wonderful race horse, a winner of eleven races and K1M.9B5, and later, when sold to ga into the stud, braanrhl sjLOit.ooo. the largeal sum ever paid for a horse. Donnacona is much like hi- sire in make and -hape. with the same raao lute look about htm and with plenty of scope for improvement. That improvement is already noticeable after a winter of Mleaeaa, and his owiu r and trainer feci confident that Donnacona will prove a StDJabUag block to the aspirations of many if the beat of the three-year-aid division. Baaaa-i onas second to Doininiiiue in the Walden Btakea at Pimlico last fall made a fine impre-sioii on those who witaeeeed that race, and many expreaaed the opinion that he would have beaten the Hil-dreth upeed marvel had the distance been a trifle fat ther. On Watch, probably the best son tiie invincible Colin has yet sent to the races, did not show his true form unlil the fall of la-t year, and the old aayiag is that a gaad two-year-old in the fall will be heard from in the faOawiag year. How gaad Waa On Watch may be judged by victories over such as that splendid filly Constancy. Damask, Blaaea, Wildaii. Carina ndale and other-. On Watch showed thai heavy Melghta or a muddy track had no terrors for him when he scored in a canter in the Qaeaa City Handicap at litonia at one mile with 152 pounds up. This fine son of Colin has wintered well ami Mr. Lafl is certainly to be con-urn tula tod on having two such splendid young horse-. Hint lii bolda a Kftont hand for the Derby few will doubt. lac ever popular Tippity Witohet is also a Member of the ! f t atriag, and the little fellow-will agaia be found battBag with the best of tbeaa in the handicap division.
