l SNOW A NEW ORLEANS ITEM a- Wintry Weather Cuts the Attendance to the Regulars. a Arnold Wins Again in a Close Finish of Three — Humpy Takes His Race. i 4 NEW 0HEEANS. Ea.. March S.— The severest March weather in the history of these part- was on tap today. An early morning snowfall was followed by freezing temperature and resulted in the attendance being confined strictly to regulars. Intermittent showers came during the afternoon, but the track was not affected to any exteal and la-t time considering the severe weather condit ion-, was the rule. The only race contested by halfway good hor-e-waa the fifth, and it was only a sprint at five and a half furlongs, although glrea the most valuable pane of the day. It turned mil to h-another -ifr to Arnold, but he had a tough lime in taking it. The heal horse in the race. T.-uola. had not been in action lor some time and Bras neglected in the betting. Arnold. Mahony and Tick-li-h were all heavily barbed, witii the latter roiag to the post slightly the favorite. Apple .lack II. set an extremely fa-i pace |o the la-t nun. then had enough ami dropped back. Arnold then look a small lead, and in a desperately contested finish won from Mahony by a head, with the latter barely nosing Ticklish out for second money. Eleven niaidea two year-olds contested the first race and Oh Tea was promptly made the farorite. It wa- not bad ■licking and she would have won had not Humpy lieen in the way and gave Sweep hi- fir-l wlaalag two year-old of this year. Humpy made the running and beat On Tea by two lengths, with Twinkle Blue at the litters neck. The second and third races fell to outsiders bj the betting. Archie Alexander was tbe preferred inn- ill the second, and racing into the lead on the last tin n appeared likely to reward hi- backer-, but BedJaad. at ll to 1. passed him ill the last sixteenth and won by a length. Old Ceneral ran well eaaagil to finish a good third. Lady Maid was at Id to 1 in the third, while Sasjn was .,1 • to .".. but that did not prevent her from taking tin-spoils by a gi od six hngtas in froni of Sasin. with Bookery third. Doeod has been racing xvell without winning, bur he had hi- turn today and gave Mo-e Coldblatt a well earned parse in the fourth race by winning at a mile and -eventy yards in a rattling finish, in which lie had a half length the best of Dixie Carroll. Fort Hlis- made the running mo-r of the way. but failed to stick it out and was beaten a length for second money. Jiffy ran widl in this lace and is good.
