ALLEGED PROFITEERING IN HORSE FEED FEEDNew New York Dealers Accused of Being Especially Ex ¬ tortionate in Their Prices LEXINGTON Ky June 8 The officials of the Thoroughbred Horse Association have been asked to investigate charges that feed dealers at New York race tracks are profiteering in the price of hay and oats In communications received at the office of the association here it is stated that one New York dealer is charging eighty dollars a ton for hay and no firstclass hay at that The price from another is 74 per ton and this man is getting 440 for oats It is alleged that a New York dealer went to Havre de Grace and tried to get the feed dealer at that track to raise his price from 55 per ton for hay which lie is said to have refused to do At Montreal the price for No 1 hay delivered at the stables on the race tracks is 38 per ton and oats are delivered at the market price Good long straw is 30 per ton tonWe We are undertaking to ascertain first what is a fair price for and a fair profit on hay and other feeds at the various points said secretary Thomas R Cromwell of the Thoroughbred Horse Associa ¬ tion and to that end we request that all horse ¬ men forward such information to the Lexington office as speedily as possible Meanwhile the officials of the various racing associations are asked to give the matter their attention If the prices are exorbitant it is an easy matter for the track owners to quickly remedy it by refusing the right of delivery to profiteers
