DORVAL JOCKEY CLUB MEETING OVER Pen Rose and St Paul Win Principal Races of Closing Day Program MONTREAL Que June 8 The best meeting in the history of the Dorval Jockey Club came to a close this afternoon with the running of a well arranged program The attendance was large and several of the races furnished exciting contests The going was again heavy which was responsible for numerous withdrawals from some of the races The feature race the Speed Handicap proved an easy victory for Pen Rose which led all the way and won pulling up St Paul the Kings Plate winner at Toronto made amends for his defeat here the other day when lie beat a band of good Canadian breds in the third race a dash of a mile in which he carried top weight St Paul after appearing like a beaten horse at the eighth post came again and displaying splendid gameness under punishment in the final drive outstayed Sal vatelle and Sturdee to win by a head headJockey Jockey Joe Rodriguez has been engaged to ride Harry Payne Whitneys Upset in the Latonia Derby and will leave here for Kentucky some day this week W Rawley is making the lads en ¬ gagements hero heroJ J B Dunn has arranged to ship the twoyearold Madeline Lillian from Toronto to Hamilton tonight where she will be freshened up for the racing at that meeting Duuii has obtained first call on jockey J Butwcll for the remainder of the Cana ¬ dian racing season McDermott will do the light riding for the stable stableA A carload of horses are on their way from Ti ¬ juana for Montreal It is made up of the G R Allens Kentucky Boy J A Parsons They Shall Not Pass Candelaria Medford Boy Mack ODay E E Majors Jim Thorpe Lady Harrignn Viva Cuba B W Creechs Hattie Willdo Hattie Mc Carty Lady Hester Onwa and J Sharkeys July Fly Jockey G Yeargin accompanied the G R Allen stable stableTen Ten claims were put in for Verity winner of the seventh race on Monday and in the drawing J Kennedy secured the horse for 1105 The other claimants were C Irjiy S Midori It V Tliiyriia erT r l Fones T DTaylor WjAr Me Kinney Milton Smith George McSweeney and T Hodge HodgeAs As an aftermath of the claiming of Annabelle and Poacher by C Price yesterday a ruling was issued by the stewards suspending Stuart Polk and liis horses and also J Price and the horses which run in his name The charges were that Prices claims were what are termed friendly ones The general impression is that a great many claims of the same nature have been filed recently recentlyHarry Harry Giddings and James Arthur were among the arrivals from Toronto Their horses were shipped from Thorncliffe to Blue Bonnets Sev ¬ eral of the smaller owners shipped their horses to Toronto last night including those of M Bur ¬ ton B E Graham II L Hatchett B A Mock J Hope J S Baldwin and P Sheridan SheridanHerman Herman Conkling and J B Campbell who of ¬ ficiated at the recent meeting at Thorncliffe Park were arrivals Both gentlemen are on the official staff at Blue Bonnets BonnetsTommy Tommy Gorman secretary of the Connaught Park Jockey Club has the promise of almost every horse ¬ man racing here to ship to Ottawa at the conclu ¬ sion of the racing at Blue Bonnets He reports that every stall at Coniiaught Park has been in ¬ spected by a government official Every stable on the grounds has been limed and the entire plant overhauled since racing iras last held there The membership of the club has increased wonderfully this spring springSheridan Sheridan Clark who filled the positions of rac ¬ ing secretary and presiding judge at Dorval has been on the job and was congratulated by the man ¬ agement on tiie wellbalanced programs be complied during the meeting He will officiate at King Edward Park ParkCecil Cecil Knight and R V Haymaker put in claims for Handfull and in the drawing Haymaker secured the horse E L Fitzgerald claimed Indian Chant out of the same race raceJockey Jockey J Connors was suspended for rough rid ¬ ing
