FRANK ONEILL PRAISES SPION KOP When Frank ONeill the American jockey re ¬ turned to France after piloting Spion Kop to vic ¬ tory in the English Derby he was interviewed and the cables report him as follows followsDont Dont quote me as saying that Spion Kop is the best horse I ever rode There is class to Spion Kop however and in my opinion he is a better horse than Tetratema or Allenby and will beat them again at even weights The race was won on its merits As for me I was lucky It has been my ambition for a long time to ride a Derby win ¬ ner and now that ambition is satisfied satisfiedFollowers Followers of racing who returned from London commented on ONeills remarks as more modest than the facts warranted His ride on Spion Kop they declared was a prime factor in that horses victory They say that ONeill timed his drive to a nicety after laying off the pace until rounding Tattenham Corner lie then slipped through on the rail saving about twenty yards and won with something to spare spareIt It was tin third time that ONeill has had a mount in the Derby He was left at the post on Kennymore in 1914 while he was unplaced on another occasion occasionWhen When ONeill was riding in this country he was a quiet wellmannered chap and his success abroad has evidently not spoiled him
