PECULIAR ANGLE IN FRANCE FRANCERIDING RIDING OUT AGITATION STRONG LONDON England May 28 French racing has lately been agitated about horses not being ridden out for places a question of greater moment than in countries where parimiituel place betting is a prime factor Where a horse is palpably superior to the rest the struggle for place in France is seldom persisted in and to the regular racegoer this needs no explanation It is not easy to con vii e Hit ordinary racing public and when a horse is leliberately eased the crowd is apt to become me lacing An owner rightly insists that his horse sli II not be called on for u big effort when vic ¬ tor is impossible and tlie jockey is frequently ma le the scapegoat Within the last month or so several of the leading jockeys have been car ¬ peted and recently at Saint Cloud there was a clear case of the kind the jockey being ordered to stand down for the rest of the racinc season
