MacManus three-year-old Kings Champion came back with another good performance at Hamilton this afternoon, when lie won the Ray View Plate. Kings Champion, ridden by Rutwell, came from behind and won in a canter from Royal Jester. The latter flattered his backers by going to the front in the early running and "drawing awav into a long lead on the back stretch. When the winner challenged and caught him at the eighth post he gave way readjly and was badly beaten at the finish. The Commander J. K. L. Ross colt has proved a keen disappointment in his races here. The Maiden Plate, second race on the card, furnished a stirring contest and one of the closest finishes ever witnessed at the Hamilton course. A half dozen horses rushed past the judges noses and heads apart and it was simply impossible to separate them. The winner was in doubt until the official placing was displayed, with Harry Glover first, and as is usual with finishes of this sort the backers of some of the others did not agree with the officials in the placing. W. M. Wattles, a well-known importer of ClerP laml.Ohio. who is -motoring: through Cannda.stopped over in Hamilton to take in the afternoons racing. He will continue his trip to Ottawa "and Montreal, and nt the conclusion of the Rlue Ronnets meeting will return home. Shaw and rred Musante will be shipped from here to AVindsor at the conclusion of the present meeting. Mr. Gilmartin. who is in charge of the mutuel department at the Fort Krie track, was an arrival. He is here arranging details for-the opening of the Niagara Jockey Clubs final meeting of the present year, which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday next. The mutuel plant at Fort Erie has been remodeled since the previous meeting and the Canadian patrons are being given as much .consideration as the American patrons, which means that the force has been about doubled. There will be sixty-two sellers and eighty-three cashiers on nt Fort Erie. The new ferryboat, which has been under contrnction since last spring, will be put into service, which means that three boats will be in operation. The new boat has been constructed so as to accommodate a number of automobiles mid is the largest of its kind, either here or at Windsor. Miss Declare, the dam of Winchester, is the property of Cal Kirby, who retired her to tlieCari. farm in Kentucky after racing her for several years. The stables of Dee Hammond, R. R. Rice. T. Doyle, Stuart Polk and Mike Seifert will be shipped from here direct to Montreal on Monday. Jockey W. Hinphy passed through here this morning on his way to Montreal, where he will ride at the Mount Royal meeting. E. P. OMeara came down from the J. K. L. Ross farm above Montreal to look over the horses racing here in charge of trairer Fred Schelke. Buckboard was ordered scratched by the stewards in the seventh race for the reason that he had been placed on the schooling list by the starter yesterday. P. MacManus decided not to kill the racer Skye Rail and instead presented the horse to E. Fred, who will make an effort to save him.
