FORT ERIE OPENS TODAY Inaugural Program One of Best Ever Offered in Canada. nr r r n Record Crowd Expected to See Sir Barton Carry Ross Colors in Dominion Handicap. n n FOItT ERIE, Ontario, August 10. The Niagara Racing Association offers its patrons a splendid program for the opening day of its second meeting at Fort Erie tomorrow. Quality is quite noticeable in a number of the races, and the card is one of the most attractive ever given by the club. The bright particular feature is, of course, the 0,000 added Dominion Handicap, a dash of a mile and a quarter, in which Sir Rarton, The Porter, 15ondage and Kings Champion are the overnight acceptances. The presence of Commander J. K. L. Ross great colt. Sir Barton, in the big race has added prestige to this popular fixture of the Niagara Racing Association, and it is expected that the largest crowd in the history of the Fort Erie track will be present tomorrow. Sir Rartons recent victory in the Saratoga Handicap, in which lie established a new track record of 2:01 for a mile and a quarter, is still fresh in the minds of racegoers hereabouts and all are anxions to sec this mighty thoroughbred in action. Reardon and Baby Grand. A special made up of twenty box cars arrived from Hamilton yesterday. These cars were routed back and brought down another big consignment today. The number of mutuel machines handling Canadian money has been, doubled since the previous meeting and the total number of machines now in operation is sixty-five. There are eighty-five cnshiers, and this is probably the largest force employed at any track in Canada. In the event of no more rain falling the track should be in good condition tomorrow. A force of men was at work on the track all day and it was drying out fast. SIB BARTON IN WINDSOR STAKES. Carroll Shilling came up with the Commander .T. K. L. Ross horses from Saratoga. Guy Redwell will be here to saddle Sir Uarton for the big race and while here lie will decide whether Sir Barton shall remain in Canada to fill his engagements at Windsor. He lias been nominated in both the Windsor Jockey Club Handicap, a .0,000 stake, at a mile and an eighth, and the George Hendrie Memorial Handicap, ,i00" added, at a mile and a sixteenth. In the event cf Sir Barton remaining here, Lion dOr and Raby Grand will also be sent over to Windsor. .1. G. Russey shipped the plater Tom Saunders in the same car that brought up the Ross horses from Saratoga. Russey wiil add a couple of more racers to his string and campaign them on the Canadian circuit. .T. G. Wagnon will leave for Kentucky shortly to arrange for tho shipment of the yearlings purchased by W. II. Rcwe to the track at Slireveport, Louisiana, where they will be broken and tried out. The plans are to send half a dozen of the youngsters to New Orleans, but the best of the band will remain at Slireveport until spring, when they will be shipped to New York. " Jockey G. Walls came up from Saratoga with the Pelican stable. Refore leaving Hamilton, Harry Giddings disposed of the Canadiau bred Bencher to George Elliott. Tho latter shipped the horse to the Cox training grounds on the Hamilton-Toronto highway, where he will be schooled through the field with the idea of making a steeplechaser out of him. Mr. Elliott plans to race Bencher at Ottawa, Rlue Ronnets and Woodbine. He will alsp do his own riding. The Canadian bred Ostara has leen sent back to the Kidding farm at Oakville, where she will lie turned out for the year. Jockey Claver was restored to sood standing by the stewards on the closing day at Hamilton and will resume riding at Fort Erie. Jockey T. , Nolan left for Saratoga this morning to join the eastern division of Commander Ross stnule. Sande will bo here in the morning and will ride Sir Rarton in the oig race.
