JOHN S. REARDON BY A NOSE I Stride! Captures Iroquois Hotel Stakes in Last of Thrilling Duel with Jean Corey Top o th Morning Beaten. FORT ERIE, Ontario, August 14. John S. Rear-don, ridden by. jockey B. Kenuedy in the colors of John W. Schorr, won the Iroquois Hotel Stakes for two-year-olds at five and a half furlongs, I which was provided as the principal offering of j Saturdays card that attracted another capacity gathering at Fort Erie this afternoon. Jean Corey, I Madeline Lillian and Baby Grand finished behind the winner in the order named. John S. Reardon : made all the pace, but just lasted, winning by the f smallest of margin. Jean Corey closed resolutely and probably would have won with better handling in the last sixteenth. Madeline Lillian also put up a determined bid near the end, but tired slightly after expending much energy in overcoming the handicap of a slow beginning. Baby Grand tired under his heavy impost. Betting on the race was heavy and pretty evenly divided between Madeline Lillian, Biiby Grand, Witch Flower, Ikey T. and the winner, with Madeline Lillian slightly more in demand than the others. Top o th Mornings defeat in the fourth nice was a hard blow to the public, as the old campaigner was heavily backed. He ran a good race for a half mile, then tired. The winner turned up in Kuklux after a spirited battle with Uncles Lassie, the latter losing in the final strides. The Hon. S. F. Tolmie complimented the management here on the able way in which the mutuel department at Fort Erie is run. The handle at the Fort Erie track shows thirty-five per cent Canadian money and sixty-five per cent American, while the equipment shows fifty-four per cent set apart for the Canadian business and forty-six to handle the American business. The staff employed at the track is "ninety per cent Canadian and ten per cent American. Dan Stewart disposed of Vansylvia after her race yesterday at private sale to Frank Tennant. R. E. Watkins , has decided to ship his stable days back, will also race his stable at Windsor. He wired the management yesterday asking that stalls be reserved for him. When C. F. Clark leaves for Kentucky next week to take up the J.- H. Louchcim yearlings, Benny Beach will take charge of the horses which have been racing in the Loucheim colors on the Canadian circuit and ship them to Havre de Grace. P. T. Bornman was an arrivnl from Detroit this morning. Before he left Windsor lie purchased of Gallaher Bros., for J. Hovizi of Detroit, the old racer McKinney.
