D1NNA CARE IN TRIUMPH 1 -w Substitutes for Man o War in Taking Saranac Handicap. Rouleau Wins Like a Good One Honey Girl Wins in a Canter Track Gossip. r r i ci SARATOGA, N. Y., August 17. The Glen Riddle Farm owned Dinnn Care continued liis winning career when ho triumphed in the Saranac Handicap at a mile, which featured todays card, and won from Dr. Clark, an added starter, with the favorite Busy Signal in third place. Jockey Kummer rode the winner and he rode him in faultless style, the chief factor in his success being an immense amount of ground ho saved on the stretch turn. Dr. Clark showed his usual high early speed, but Busy Signal kept him close company, and on the stretch turn appeared capable of taking command, but just when it was expected of her to race into the lead she disappointed by making an extremely wide turn, and it practically disposed of her winning chance. She finished resolutely, however, and the leaders did not hare such an overwhelming margin over her at the end. Had she been kept close to the inner rail it is probable that she would have won the ,400 net that went to the winner. Man o War was carded in the race with an impost of 140 pounds, but was withdrawn, and the task of carrying off the prize intrusted to Dinna Care. Small fields made for interesting- racing this ;""trni fifth fairly large-mid-week: attendance. Jyntefes presence in the opener was responsible for reducing the field to three starters, and it only proved an ordinary canter for Jyntee to keep in the van and win as her rider pleased from Liberty Oirl and Rollicking Airs. Montfort Jones Rouleau, making his first start of the meeting, showed himself to be in excellent form and incidentally furnished an upset when lie came away to an easy victory in the second race over Manoevre, with Sweet Music following. Dream of the Valley was the favored one here and he displayed a great turn of early speed, but the stretch racing found his tiring badly and he brougnt up in the rear. A rather ordinary band started in the third race with Sheba ruling favorite, but she had to be ridden to her utmost to land in second place, the winner turning up in Jim Daisy, which led for the entire way. lint for Eye Opener, which finished third, falling badly lame ia the last sixteenth he might have won. His rider had to dismount him before returning to the stand. Jim Daisy was in to be sold for ,000, but was bid up to .,500, at which figure he was secured by T. M. Notts. The fifth race furnished an exciting duel between Smart Guy and Penelope, the pair practically racing oil even terms from the start, with victory in doubt for either until in the last strides, where Smart Guy forged into a slight lead and won. The Lamb, under hard riding, succeeded in dowing the- others for tliird place. - - REPUTED CRACK BEATEN. The first time starter Parhelion, a reputed crack filly, was backed with rare confidence in. the final dash, but Honey Girl made a runaway of the race, heading Parhelion right after the start and winning as Ambrose pleased. Parhelion ran a good rnce and was best of the others. Trainer J. S. Healy accompanied Exterminator to Windsor to start Saturday and will ship the horse back immediately after the race.
