BELMONT PARK OPENS TODAY Manhattan and Tomboy Handicaps Attractions of Inaugural Program of Fall Racing in the East. NEW YORK, X. Y., September 1. Autumn racing over the Metropolitan tracks will be inaugurated at Belmont Park tomorrow. The Manhattan and Tomboy Handicaps, both of ,500 added, are the principal features of the opening day program that is expected to attract an n tendance of large pro-ltortinns to welcome the return of the thoroughbreds after their long stay at Saratoga. For the Manhattan a select field of crack racers is named overnight. Sir Barton is top weight and favorite, with such good horses as Naturalist, Boniface, Mad Hatter, Lord Brighton, Audacious and Jack Stuart to furnish contention for Commander J. K. L. Boss champion. The Tomboy is for two-year-old fillies, and ten young misses of promise will try conclusions in it, Muttikins, By Jiminy, Tamarisk, Last Straw and Believe Idle Hour being the most prominent of those carded to start. Well matched contenders are entered in the overnight races. A fast band of sprinters are scheduled to meet in the opener, witli Motor Cop most favored, but with no easy task in front of him in disposing of such formidable opponents as Peter Piper, On Watch, Arnold, Dream of the Valley and others. While considerable difficulty is being experienced in securing sufficient cars to ship all the horses from Saratoga there are plenty here to make up a satisfactorj- card until the late arrivals set in.
