MAN 0 WARS GREAT SPEED Champion Works Mile and a Half in 2:29 2-5 Time Faster Than American Record for Distance. NEW YORK, N. Y., September 2. Man o War gave another startling display of his wonderful speed, which lias already placed three American track records to his credit, when at Belmont Park this morning he worked a mile and a half in the astonishing time of 2:20. Tills is one-fifth of a second faster than the American record for the distance, made by Thunderclap at Laurel October 11, 1919. The Belmont Park record is 2:32and. The champion was in fine fettle when brought on the track for his trial in preparation for his engagement in the Lawrence Realization next Saturday. He went the quarter in 24,f,, half in 48, three-quarters in 1:12. mile in 1:38, mile and a quarter in 2:03 anl the mile and a half in 2:29. He pulled up appearing as fresli as when he started.
