GOOD CARD AT DEVONSHIRE Polythia Victress in Border Chamber of Commerce Handicap. Eddie Rickenbacher Wins Secondary Feature and Breaks the Track Record Doing So. "WINDSOR. Ont., September 2. An excellent card was provided for the second days racing at Devonshire Park today, which was run under Ideal conditions and another large crowd was in attendance. The Border Chamber of Commerce Handicap for two-year-olds at three-quarters of a mile, with ,500 added, served as the feature and resulted in n thrilling finish with the three placed horses finishing heads apart. The winner turned up in F. Dahnkens Polythia, a speedy daughter of Poly-melian. She raced In third position until after rounding the far turn, then moved up to the leaders and, taking the lead in the stretch, appeared an easy winner. The final sixteenth found Polythia tiring and she was forced to a hard drive to earn the verdict by a head margin. Loveliness made a game effort after contesting the early leadership with Jna "Wood. The secondary feature, a three-quarter mile handicap, run as the fourth race, aroused equally as much interest. J. R. Skinkers Eddie Rickenbacher showed the way to his opponents all the way and set such a dizzy pace that he reduced the track record for the distance to 1:11, a most creditable effort for a three-year-old with 1120 Ijonnds. up. Closing with good courage in the stretch, Glastoi scored an easy victory over a band of ordinary performers in the curtain-raiser -:AIt-Ve2iniifin-ally graduated from the maiden ranks when lie accounted for the, second, a three-quarter mile dash for maidens. While en route to the post for this race Tom Logan ran away a mile before jockey Mnngin succeeded in pulling him up. Wat Zone took the measure of some good horses when he beat Lord Herbert and Vulcanite after a mild ilrive in the third race. For insolence while at the post for the fourth race jockey Kennedy was set down for two days by starter Tribe. Trainer Fred Fox reports Ed Glnsscos Miss Edwards to be threatened with a bow and will be out of commission for the remainder of the year. Rex Gaiety is temporarily on the shelf, but may race later on. C. Buxton will ship his string of eleven head to Jamaica at the conclusion of this meeting. Jockey M.i Buxton will accompany the stable. Jockey J. Brown, who is under contract to Ed Moore, made his debut in the saddle at this course today. W. C. Weant will ship his stable to Toronto following the close here and jockey Chiavetta will also go along. The books of the Thorncliffe Park meeting, which opens at Toronto on September 17, are now in the printers hands. No purse will be of less value than ,200 and the majority of the overnight races call for ,500 added money. S. N. Holman was a visitor here today interesting horsemen in a thirteen days running meeting that he is promoting at Chagrin Falls, near Cleveland, Ohio, from September IS to October 2. Jockey J. Heupel, at the close of this meeting, will depart for Havre de Grace, where he will ride for Owen Pons. La Chevense was ordered scratched from the sixth race for lack of sufficient identification. The horse was bred in Franee and is owned by Dr. W. P. Harlos and trained by O. Ryerson. Jockey Yeargiu was unseated from Archie Alexander after the field had run an eighth in the sixtli race, but the rider escaped unhurt.
