VETERAN CAMPAIGNER WINS Ever Green Leochares Races in Old-Time Form Ordinary Card Provides Good Sport. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., September. 15. The ever green Leochares raced as of old today and delighted a large gathering at the Havre course by an impressive performance in the fifth race, easily defeating Damrosch, from the stable of J. K. L. Ross. Butwell had the mount, on Leochares and kept a stout hold on the old fellow for the first three-quarters and did not make a move until the stretch turn. When called on, Leochares moved up with a display of his old-time speed, overhauled Damrosch and, after racing him into defeat, drew away into a safe lead. While todays program was devoid of an outstanding feature, the racing proved interesting, though attended with several surprises and upsets. In the latter connection the defeat of Columbine was the most unexpected. The Forman racer was held at prohibitive odds and the talent were quite shocked to see Pocatello and Tenons Bon lead the favorite home. Of a sensational order was the finish of the fourth race. Little Ed coming from the rear with a wonderful burst of speed to laud the purse by the last few strides, with Le Dinosaure, the favorite, right at his heels. After enjoying an apparently safe lead throughout in the third race, Charlie Summy was forced to the limit to withstand the terrific closing challenge of Betty J. The latter finished wearing the winner down and would have won in a few more strides. A. II. Morris Fallacy, a daughter of Light Brigade, found easy sailing in the initial dash, contested by a band of maiden two-year-old, fillies. Blue Belle finished second and paid 2.30 for to place. Capt. Ral Parr showed a promising jumper in Bullseye, whicjt won tlie race through the field in fine style after overcoming considerable early interference caused by the riderless War Togs.
