HENDRIE, under stout restraint in the early running, raced into the lead when straightened out in the stretch, but was brielly forced to be hard ridden to withstand TAR-ASCONS stretch challenge. TARASCON was forced back on the turn out of the backstretch and closed up gamely, but could never overhaul the leader. OUR NEPHEW, shuffled hack at the start, closed a big gap and finished fast. YANKEE NOTIONS set the early pace, but tired badly in the last quarter. COURTING COLORS ran well. DIOSCORIDE was practically left at the post. VETO saved ground when entering the homestretch and made a game finish, but tired in the last seventy yards. TOM McTAGGART was a forward contender for the entire race, was forced wide when entering the homestretch and lost ground, but came again and would have been second in another stride.
