FINALE AT BLUE BONNETS Spectacular and Thrilling Finish in Steeplechase Feature. Eight Boss Horses in One Race, but Leased to Club Members Ajom the Winner. - MONTREAL, Qui-hce. September 10. A spectacular and thrilling finish resulted from the running of the JJartlett McLennan Steeplechase under handicap conditions for four-year-olds and over at two and a half miles. Scratches brought the field down to but three starters, Elysian, mighty II. and Lava being withdrawn. Jim Thorpe, fencing faultlessly, set the pace until in the final few yards, where he tired slightly and Bencher, closing up resolutely, got up to win in the closing strides, Mlnata being third but a short" distance back. A heavy downpour of rain, which set in early this morning, changed the track conditions, but had little effect on the withdrawals. The third race was framed under conditions which provided that the horses running in the race be cither1 owned or leased by a member of the Montreal Jockey Club. The dash was at five and a half furlongs for two-year-olds, Canadian bred. J. K. L. Ross entered eight horses and all were carded under different trainers and owners. Ajom, racing for Sir Charles Cordon, a prominent financier, was returned the winner from his stable-mute, Flying Ford, with Herendesy third. The race was witnessed by a large gathering from the club-bouse law;ns and balconies. Following the? running of the first race sunshine broke forth and late arrivals swelled the attendance, considerably. A majority of the horses that raced at Blue Bonnets were shipped to Toronto this morning, and it looks ns if there will lte u shortage of material at Dorval. It would not be surprising to find a second circuit in Canada next year, as it looks as if the Quebec tracks are unable to compete with those in Ontario. Word was received here that Frank J. Bruen, general manager of the Cuba-American Jockey and Auto Club, would be in Baltimore some time in October to consult with .horsemen who intend shipping to Cuba. Charles Campeau will go from Dorval Park to Kenilwortli Park to receive entries for the stakes to be run at Oriental Park next winter. David S. Gillcs has been appointed to fill the position of presiding judge at the Dorval Park meeting.
