MAN 0 WAR ON TO HAVRE Champion Three-Year-Old Faces Hardest Task of His Career in Potomac Handicap, to Be Run Saturday. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md.. September 10. Samuel D. Riddle of Philadelphia wired from New York this afternctm that his unbeaten three-year-old Man o AVar will leave Belmont Park this evening for Havre de Grace to start Saturday in the 0,000 Potomac Handicap. The Potomac, a race of one mile and a sixteenth, for three-year-olds exclusively, will, unless all the signs fail, provide the most brilliant contest between three-year-olds of the current year. Man o War is asked tp take up the crushing burden of 13S pounds. His prospective opponents are Paul Jones 114, winner of the Kentucky Derby and the Suburban Handicap; Wild-air, winner of the Metropolitan and Ten Broeck Handicaps and the Empire City Derby; King Thrush, the best three-year-old of the stable of Commander J. K. L. Ross of Montreal; Blazes, a companion of Paul Jones in the stable of Captain Ral Parr, and possibly Damask, the contender at Belmont Park on Wednesday in the first running of the Autumn Gold Cup, a race of two miles, in which Exterminator made a new American record of 3:21. Wildair, which came down yesterday, worked a tulle and an eighth in 1:53 .after .the third race Here this afternoon. Paul Jones, which has not started since the running of the Suburban Handicap in which he beat Boniface and Exterminator, is in grand condition. He has galloped one mile and an eighth here twice in better time than 1:56 and a mile in 1:41. It is generally agreed that Man o War has before him the hardest task assigned him this year. If no rain falls tomorrow the going will be as fast as it ever is, and it is a certain that with Man o War in the Potomac, the Harford Agricultural and Breeders Association will be called on to entertain the greatest crowd that ever assembled at the Havre de Grace course. The colors of Commander Ross were much in evidence today, horses from his stable winning three of the seven races. Lion dOr captured the Piedmont Handicap, the principal offering of the afternoon. Sailing B. and Faisan Dure were the other Ross winners. All three were favorites and were ridden by Sande. J. F. Schorr, acting for E. 15. McLean, claimed Charlie Sumniy for ,500 after his victory yesterday. Johnny Overton, Blazer and Little Ed were placed on the schooling list. E. K. Rryson has acquired Vim in trade for Queen of the Spa and will endeavor to make a Jumper of his new charge. J. W. Dayton bought Jay Bird of the Crown Staple at. private terms. A carload of horses belonging to J. W. McClelland reached here from Saratoga this morning. J. Simon Ileal, who recently severed his connection with the Willis Sharpe Kilmer stable, arrived today to take charge of the A. II. Diaz stable. Frank Kehoe came here today from Laurel to buy back at private terms the two-year-old filly Love Tap, recently claimed from S. Ross by E. B. McLean. J. E. Griffiths Jeg was scratched from the .eecbud race because of ineligibility. -
