FEATURE RAGE TO GINGER Defeats Frank W. and Dodge in an Interesting Contest. 1 1 Latonia Weather Still Cold and the Track Heavy, but the Favorites Win Well. BY J. L. DEMPSEY. LATONIA, Ky., October 28. Cold, dry weather ruled here today, but the difficult track was responsible for an absence of big fields. However, this benefited the racing, for the smaller numbers furnished some interesting sport and It was thoroughly enjoyed by a surprisingly large attendance. Form was well conserved and most of the winners came from the ranks of favorites. Six good performers started in the feature, a mile dash for a purse of ,000. W. E. Applegates recently acquired 0,000 Ginger was the winner here, but only after he had to run a sparkling race to dispose of Ids opponents, which included Frank W. and Dodge, following him home respectively in the above order. Gingelr was at home In the going and was rushed into the lead at once, but his leadership, was disputed in succession by Atta Boy II., Dodge and Frank W. The latter gave him the Jmostr trouble and it was only in the last eighth "that he managed to shake him off. Bradleys Balance Wheel outclassed those he met in the second race and scored in hollow style, drawing away in the stretch with the utmost ease. The one-time eraek Beaverkill showed a flash of his old-time form when he took into camp some speedy ones in the three-quarters sprint, but his margin of victory was a narrow one, secured only after a game drive to outstay Anticipate. Accelerate, an overwhelming choice, made good in the fourth race. She was kept In the wake of the others for the first half mile, but rushed into the lead when freed from restraint in a flash and was easing up in the last sixteenth. C, W. Clarks White Starj so lightly regarded that he was grouped in the field, won the sixth race from good youngsters. Julia N. landed in second place, but through no fault of Wilson, who almost took her up to a standstill at the end. Rama landed in third place. The racing at Churchill Downs will begin daily at 1:30 p. in. Jockey S. Wida was suspended for ten racing days by the stewards for rough riding in the sixth race. Rama was claimed out of the sixth race by Mose Goldblatt at a cost of ,900 and Social Star was taken by S. M. Henderson for ,400. Artisan, owned by Henderson, came out of the race badly cut. Horses and equipment used by the Thoroughbred Endurance Test Club were sold in the paddock. The hotses sold were: David Craig, to S. T. Baxter. 50; iMajella to Cromwell and Dempsey. 20: U Twenty -Three to W. Huklll, 0; Moscowa to G. H. Keene, 00. In addition to the horses, saddles, blankets, boots and an automobile truck were sold. The proceeds will be prorated to the subscribers to the endurance test fund. Dancing Spray was claimed by Treacy and Walker for ,600. Jack Atkin, who Is doing missionary work here cn behalf of the Tijuana track, announced today the appointment of Francis Nelson as presiding steward for the meeting there. S, M. Henderson sold privately this morning to Mrs. M. Merle the horse Rifle, which will be raced next winter.
