J. S. Tyrees Dr. Joe finished second and Tantalus was third. The Sea King colt made all the pace and won by a length and a half under a mild drive. The Kentucky Derby winner was the only successful favorjte on the flat racing card. Cold winds swept the course this afternoon and kept down the attendance Bomewhat. Explosive, running in the colors of ,F. A. Swenke with Wessler in the saddle, opened the days proceedings by getting down in front of Chow by a head. Salesman was a poor third. Two claims were entered for Chow, which -was the property of Mr. 11. I. Miller N. S. Vails bid of ,315 won out over G. W. J. Bissells offer of ,305. M, Colfords Dob Redfield, with R. Gilbert up, accounted for the steeplechase after a hard drive with Hinjthfield. Ormead was third. Fair Mac. the only other starter, was crowded into one of the standards, outlying the - course as the. field, nwuwg VtoWra"-the stretch," and IV. Gentry, his riderY-was unseated. Gentrys claim of foul was not allowed. St. Mlcliael, from the stable of G. A. Cochran, displayed a return to his best form to win the third race from Dr. Charles Wells and Night Raider. Kelsny made all the pace with the winner. Another favorite went wrong In the fifth. K. B. McLeans good sprinter Charlie Summy made all the; pace and secured a nose decision over Flibbertigibbet, while Young Adam, public choice, finished -third. It was Bntwells riding that kept the Assuffal gelding ill front. Fllbbertygibbet closed with more reserve strength, but Butwell outrode Harbounie on the lightly weighted challenger. Fickle Fancy led an immense band in the sixth and, beat the favorite, Paul Connelly, a length. Pretty Baby was third. A special will leave Sunday for Havana. It will be made up of two cars from here and five coming tlirougir from New York. In the consignment leaving here will be the strings of A. H. Diaz, W. L. Oliver, J. J. McCafferty, F. Ginty, G. Foley, M. Belfert, F. Delbarrio and" It. D. Carter. Another special will depart from here Wednesday for the" Cuban course, both being scheduled to go right through.
