WALDEN TO IDLE DELL . i Delhi Colt Victor in Pimlicos Noted Fall Juvenile Race, i i Captain Alcock Defeats Peter Piper in Thrilling Finish in the Southern Handicap. i PIMLICO, Md., November C. An immense throng turned out at Pimlico this afternoon to witness the running of the Walden Stakes, one of the famous old fixtures of the Maryland Jockey Club. Larry Waterbury furnished the winner in Idle Dell, which lias shown .such wonderful improvement since coming to Maryland. The "Walden, which is for two-yearo-ld colts and fillies, was a dash of a mile, toSvhlch the club added 0,000. It brought a field of rflfteen of the best two-year-olds in the country to thp Post and furnished a splendid contest. Idle Dell took the lead at once and, setting a good pace, withstood a pressing challenge from Baby Grand in tc stretch and, drawing away in the last sixteenth, won by a length and a half from Broomspun, Which just managed to get up in the final strides; r to beat Baby Grand the shortest possible margin for second place. The winner was favored by an inside post position, which meant much, in a big field on a track no wider than Timlico. Broomspun, which was on the outside, showed a splendid performance, as he was forced to go wide at the turns to get to the leaders. Polly Ann closed an immense gap and rah like a filly, that gives great promise as a three-year-old,, provided she winters well. Ten-Lee was last, beaten off: When heir rider found the task a hopeless one he eased her up. Mrs.. F. Ambrose Clark furnished the winner of the Grseni-.-SpriiiKj-Y-allffi, steeplechase in Minata which beat Ormcad in a driving finish. Regal Lodge made a runawas- affair ot the third, a claiming race, at a mile and a sixteenth. The. .Southern, Handicap brought out some of the best sprinters on the grounds and it resulted in a. rousing race in which Captain Alcock got up in. the closing Strides to beat Peter Piper by a nose, with Panoply third, a half length away, which in turn was but a, head in front of Lord Brighton. It was a wonderful race. The management at Bowie announced that special cars would be run from both Washington and Baltimore for the exclusive use of those holding club membership cards. MANY TO WINTER AT LAUREL. Luke Cassidy, who has been looking after the detail work at Laurel, was a visitor at Pimlico this afternoon. He announced that a lurse colony of horsemen would winter at Laurel and more improvements would begin shortly. Harry TJnna was an arrival from New York. He is here in search of material to race at Tijuana and will make some purchases next week. Among the visitors at Pimlico this afternoon we,re. L. Waters and T. K. Ferguson of Long Island and Willis S. Kilmer, owner of Exterminator. " At the conclusion of the Pimlico meeting several stables will leave for Benhing, where they will go into winter quarters. .Johnny Schorr will ship the Edward B. McLean horses to the Washington course and W. P. Burch and James W. Healy will also send over the horses . under their care. Mr. Healy announced that he would race a string of nine. jumpers for J. L. Lumsden next year and four flat horses, two-year-olds which were bred at the Pequest Stud, Andover, N. J., which is now the property of Mr. Lumsden. The latter lias seventeen mares at his place and fourteen of them foaled last spring. C. Hall has arranged to ship Kuklux to his place at, Caruthersville, Missouri, where lie will be turned out for the winter. He has Mabel Trask and The Talker at his farm and they will be taken up in the spring. The horse supposed to be Golden Glow, which was dyed a chestnut and which was exhibited In. the paddock at Laurel on two or three occasions during the meeting, is now stabled at the driving park. It is said that Frank Weir will 1m; here on Monday to identify the horse. Mr. Weir raced Golden" Glow. At Laurel some horsemen claimed tlHt the horse was Golden Glow, while some others were equally as positive that he was not there.
