"LUCKY" BALDWINS FASTEST HORSE The late "Lucky" Baldwin was once asked to name the best horse he ever owned. "Why, boy, if I told you youd laugh," replied that famous turfman. . "It was that filly .Sinaloa," he said. "Yes, that brown filly. Better than any of them, she was. Better than Emperor of Norfolk? Yes, Better than Mollie McCartyV Yes. Better than Los Angeles? Yes. Because she could run faster and pack weight, too. She took up a big burden. I dont remember how much, but it was more than 120 and worked a mile and a quarter in 2:04 at Monmouth Park. Some of the eastern officials heard of it and offered to get up a special race the following spring for Sinaloa and Salvator. I left her in the East that winter just for that stake and Albert Cooper let her die of pneumonia. She was tlie fastest and ganiest of them all, son, and you neednt smile. There was only one of her."
