LARGE CROWD FOR MONDAY . j Surprisingly Big Gathering Sees i Racing at Oriental Park. - Expect Track to Be Much Improved When Sport Is Re- , sumed Wednesday. -i HAVANA. Cuba, December 0. Another large crowd turned out at Oriental Park this afternoon. The. attendance was surprisingly large for a Monday, anil exceeded by fur the expectations of the management. The meeting up to date has been lifty percent better than any of its predecessors , and after the holidays promises to be even better. The track conditions showed today a steady improvement and beginning Wednesday larger and , better class fields will be seen in action. C. K. Moore Scored his first victory of this meeting when Marion Hollins won the fourth race. Pitz rusled her into a long lead until she Jed her opponents by fifteen lengths at the top of the home stretch. This effort told when at the end she had to be hard ridden to withstand Bulgers challenge. Had the latter succeeded in getting 1 through to the outside when he moved up he would probably have won. Jockey .Butwell, who has already gained a large local following, won with one of his mounts when lie- captured the fifth race with Frascuelo. He was forced to put up a rousing finish to outlast the fast closing White Crown, defeating the latter by a neck. Due to thp fact that Tuesday is a day of mourning in Cuba for the Cuban- patriot, General Antonio Maeeo, racing at Oriental lark will be suspended that day. The sport will be resumed Wednesday afternoon -with racing ejichday.-4bejrcafter. --. The entiles" for Wednesdays" racing will close Tuesday morning at 10:30 a. m. Forty horse?. which had been detained at Key West for two days en rcutc from Bowie, Maryland, reached Havana this morning. The shipment included the horses of J. C. Mayes, A. F. Dayton, Frank Herold,. D. S. Fountain, L. Lamay. E. .7. Albright and James Fitz-simmous. All the hcrses stood the trip well. Recent arrivals from Maryland include Fr?d Boughsman, who brought the horse Billy Reedy. J. fj. Watson .also arrived with the two-year-old Ascntney. The horses Pooch and Sweep Clean have been transferred from the stable of C. K. Moore to the Gold Apple Stable, which is in charge of P. J. Kennedy. The latter trainer is also in charge of tlie. Jventmere Farm Stable, which includes the horses Perigourdine, Kcntmere and a yearling by Bard of Hope Elasticity. Jockey W. Jarrells apprentice allowance expired last Friday. He rode his first winner at Oriental Park December 3 last year. Jockey Carmody will also lose his apprentice allowance Tuesday. He rode his first winner at the local track December 1, 1919, on the Armonia Stables Riverside. This was also the first winner which Carmody ever rode. V. Porterie has only four horses in his barn now. They are Uetterton, Kcrnan, Cockle and 1 White Haven. has. A. Stoneham and John J. McGraw left this afternoon for New York, to attend to business ; matters in connection with the New York National ! League Baseball Club. They expect to be away about cue week. Both journeyed from Havana to Key West by seaplane. Mr. McGraw and Mr. ; Stoneham are both well pleased with the success : of the Oriental Park meeting and predict that it " will grow as the season progresses. William Dugan was a recent arrival from the , north. Jockey Wakoff, who rode here last year, arrived , from Maryland. W. S. Hall claimed Marion Hollins from Mrs. C. K. Moore out of the fourth race for ,000. Next in order of the twenty-one stakes to be decided . during the present meeting at Oriental Park will be the ,000 added Antilles Claiming Stakes, which will be the chief offering of the management f for next Sunday. The Antilles is open for horses of all ages and will be contested over the sprinting distance of three-quarter mile. Fifty-five good sprinters are listed as eligiblcs to the race : ; and among these are some of the best at this track.
