CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF Newton Bennington, a prominent figure on the turf a decade ago, is among the recent arrivals at New Orleans, where he intends to spend the winter. C. B. Irwin, who has one of the largest stables -at Tijuana, claimed Horace Lerch last week from W. F. Polscn. the Buffalo turfman and former . owner of Billy Kelly. Reports from southern California are that all previous attendance records at the Tijuana race track have been broken this year. The crowds on Saturdays and Sundays are estimated at between 5,000 and 10,000. Col. Matt J. Winn, the efficient and successful general manager of the Kentucky Jockey Club tracks, has just completed his twenty-first year of official connection with racing. He first became identified with the sport in 1900 when he took a clerical position with the old Louisville Jockey Club. Mr. Winn is 59 years old and was born at LouisTille. Ky., Juno 30, 1861.
