ATTA BOY II. AND HERRON Furnish Interesting Duel at Havana Vic Munoz Qualifies for Sundays Big Race. HAVANA. Cuba. December 22. Mose Goldblatt broke the spell of bad luck that has seemingly hovered over his stable since its arrival in Cuba when the good three-year-old Attn Boy II. defeated the Cuban Derby winner llerron in a thrill- j ing finish in a three-quarters of a mile dash, run as the fifth race. It was a sparklin;; contest from start to finish, with Atta B".v II. and Herron racing like a team and fighting every inch of tin-way. Great enthusiasm prevailed as the two horses came thundering through the stretch and the finish was so close, that the admirers of both liorses claimed victory and the result was in duobt until the official piacing was announced. I The Peter Pan colt Vic Munoz qualified handsomely for the Championship Stakes to be run Sunday when he won an impressive victory in the Trial Handicap, easily defeating Spugs. Aunt Deda and Santa Clans, to each of which he was conceding much weight. The winner of the first race came from the stable of G. C. Mizell in the Transvaal filly Jill. She was ridden by R. Ball and displayed a high order of speed, leading all the way. After entering tin; stretch, with what appeared to be a safe lead, she suddenly tired and victory was almost tinned into defeat. Frank Burke closing like a flash and just failing to overtake the filly. G. P.. Foleys Maryland bred Smite, a sen of Prince Ahmed, robliod the second race of all interest by stealing away into a long lead and easily holding sway throughout. Elnicnt. after going a half mile in this race, bled and was pulled. The Marianao stables Avion, under the skillful guidance of B. Kennedy, ran up to the expectations of his admirers, who made him an even money favorite at post time, and easily accounted for the third race, never being in danger at any part of it. Kewessa was second and Driffield third. Avion was claimed out of the third race by W. IS. Campbell for ,100. ! j 1 , , 1 1
