Race Thriller from Start to Finish Four Straight Wins for Vic Mimoz. 4. HAVANA, Cuba. Dec. 25. Senor K. L. Alvarez good colt Herron turned the tables on Atta Roy II. the running of the Christmas Handicap this afternoon when he came from behind in :i spirited finish and won tiie race. There were twelve starters and Atta Roy II. was first to show in front, lie set a fast pace to the last turn, where the Cuban Derby winner challenged and secured a slight advantage. From there on it was nip and tuck, the two three-year-olds racing almost abreast as they came rushing through the homestretch. Roth Rutwell and Kennedy were riding as if their lives depended UMn it and it was one of the greatest finishes ever seen in Cuba, the veteran rider, who is the leading American jockey of 1920, outriding his younger opponent at the end. Rutwell was given one of the greatest ovations ever accorded rider here on his return to the scales. Mose Gohlblatts Furbelow accounted for the Santa Clans Handicap when he beat Assumption by a scant length. The winner was swerving all iivcr the track iu the stretch run and at the end sharply interfered with Assumption, which undoubtedly would have won with a clear way. The crack Peter Pan colt Vic Muuoz. carrying the silks of the Armenia stable, won his fourth .straight victory when he was returned winner of the first race of the afternoon. lie was ridden by F. Merimee. who kept him close to the pacemaker until reaching the stretch turn, where he sent him to the front, easily passing Rlack Top. although the latter finished gamely, hut was no match for the Whitney-bictl youngster. A slow start ruined whatever chance old llocnir bail of winning the second nice, in which he was the favorite. He finished third, only beaten a nose for secbnd place, while Polar Cub had no trouble annexing the purse, as Avious fractious behavior at the post told on her at the end. The veteran turfman I. Cheek scored another success here when his Peep o Day gelding Red led all the way in the third and under Hutwclls energetic riding lasted long enough to secure a close decision over Huntress. The McGee gelding View was best in the fourth race and ran accordingly, never being in danger of defeat at any part of the contest. Jills performance was far below his true form. Willow Tree is now the only horse left and when this one is disposed of he will leave for New Orleans to assume charge of the Keene horses racing in that city, which are in care of Ham Keene. The latter is going to Arizona for his health. Jockey McCoy will accompany Mr. ltrewster to New Orleans. Several hundred patrons enjoyed the Christmas dinner in the grandstand restaurant. The menu was varied and included many dishes appropriate for the holidays.
