HOW DAM OF TRYSTER MET DEATH James Haynes who IP in charge of the mares of H P Whitneys Kentucky farm recently told the story of the death of Trysters dam Tryst It is printed in the current Thoroughbred Horse Mr Hayes said The mare was shot during one night while she with other mares was in a field at the corner of two roads Who shot her wo do not know though we presume and hope It was unin ¬ tentional The mare lived for two weeks with the ball so close to the spinal column that the veteri ¬ narians would not risk probing it After death they made an examination that disclosed the bone to have been splintered Tryst was as may be judged by what I have just safd a mare of wonderful vitality and much courage and with the racing performances of Tryster standing out as they do it is most unfortunate that she of all the sixtytwo mares on the farm should have been the one to die at such an age with such possi ¬ bilities Tryst by St Amant Greenvale by Ham ¬ burg she out of Mineola by Meddler and she out of Hurley Hurley by Kiley was foaled in England in i 1914 and was brought over as a yearling She was not raced I
