GERMAN BREEDING FIGURES Astonishing Increases in Both Racing and Its Prizes Dark Ronald Leads Sires for the theThird Third Year Jest Leaves LeavesTrio Trio of Good Colts BY E E COUSSELL COUSSELLLONDON LONDON England April 2 Recent figures in Detitscher Sport tho lending Gorman racing paper contained a great deal ot Information about German racing during and since the war The de ¬ tails were quite new and are Interesting to breed ¬ ers all over the world worldHere Here are the particulars relating to racing on the flat in Germany during the last eight years yearsStakes Stakes Year Races Run Marks 1913 898 4412485 1914 r 20 2380630 1915 24i 1068515 1010 560 3835150 1917 013 4825949 1918 481 0760220 1919 495 7200585 1920 903 19830510 19830510In In jumping races the figures for 1913 and 1919 1919were were as follows followsStakes Stakes Year Races Marks 1913 1524 3791410 1919 835 14324605 14324605Naturally Naturally when regarding the figures for last season one has to bear in mind the great depre ¬ ciation in the value of the mark A statement has recently been made that the value of the mark in Germany at date is about onesixth of its prewar value At that valuation the 19830510 marks dis ¬ tributed in 1920 assume a different appearance but all the same would compare not unfavorably with the 4400000 marks given in prize money in 1913 It will be noticed that the number of actual races was sixtyfive higher than in 1913 The vast dif ¬ ference in the number of hurdle races and steeple ¬ chases between 1913 and 1919 is easily understood because army officers were always strong if not in ¬ deed the chief supporters of such races They an ¬ nually bought many scores of moderate thorough ¬ breds chiefly geldings in England before the war warAmerican American breeders will be greatly interested in the statistics relating to the stallions in Germany because Dark Ronald for the third year in suc ¬ cession is at the head of the list Dark Ronald is of course the sire of Brown Prince and Ambas ¬ sador sire of Constancy Dark Ronald was the joint property of Sir A Bailey and Mr Donald Frascr who sold him to Germany for 90000 at the end of the 1913 stud season Here are his figures for the last three years Stakes 1918 709840 marks 1919 848200 marks 1920 2243900 marks marksIt It may be mentioned that Brown Prince was foaled the year after his sire went to Germany
