NEW STARTING MACHINE AT RANDWICK The Grey starting machine which has been used on the course at Randwick Australia for many years is to be dropped and the Johnstone Glee son machine installed says a writer in the Syd ¬ ney Referee The latter is the one in use at some of the Melbourne courses and while the Grey barrier is easily broken and as easily adjusted there is little likelihood of horses or riders attempt ¬ ing to go through the new barrier It is a formi ¬ dable affair and if si Jockey should by any chance get causht in it he will be lifted off the horse he is riding In Melbourne this knowledge makes jockeys careful and tends to simplify the starters work Whether the advantages of the new machine outweigh those of the Grey has yet to be proved in Sydney
