HAMILTONS GOOD RACING Second Thoughts Takes Spring Brewery Stakes Goaler Makes Auspicious Canadian Debut HAMILTON Ont June 25 Edward F Whit ¬ neys fleet daughter of Ultimus Lydia II Second Thoughts was returned the winner of the Spring Brewery Stakes which was offered as the carded feature at the Hamilton track this afternoon A field of eight paraded for the race which was at fiveeighths five declining the issue of the original programmed thirteen There was a slight delay at the barrier and when it was released Second Thoughts dwelt Parrington however was wide awake and soon got her settled in her stride and overhauled the leaders with a rush When she gained the lead the race was never left in doubt and her supporters breathed a sigh of relief Ogarite and Whirl were offering up a stubborn battle for second place the former gaining the decision right at the end endApart Apart from the running of the carded feature the Grimsby Handicap a dash for threeyearolds and over at a mile and an eighth was offered as the secondary attraction This race served as an in ¬ troductory affair for Goplcr of which mncU had been heralded He raced to his best form and won with something to spare at the end overcoming interference when he tried to go through at the far turn King Thrush and Slippery Elm were the ones to set out the early running and it was fast They rounded the turn into the home stretch wide and the winner came through with a rush soon gaining the lead to win going away awaySaturdays Saturdays conditions could hardly be improved a clear sky a fast track and a good racing card acting as the magnet that attracted u crowd of recordbreaking proportions to the course Racing was of the highest order although many of the winners were returned by safe margins The public had a good line on the different starters and well backed choices were returned winners in the majority of the races racesW W R Ware who was represented in the third race by Grand Daddy secured Sergeant York from J C Gallaher via the claiming route following the running of that race TiasSelieanSUjbleat private terms disposed of the two year old Desperation to G Jones JonesAt At the conclusion of this meeting Fred Gerhardy goes to Montreal to take charge of the Delorimier Park meeting This will make the first time in twentyfive years that Mr Gerhardy has missed a meeting at Windsor WindsorA A notice was posted in the secretarys office from the stabling committee at Saratoga asking horsemen not to ship unless they had been notified by secretary A McL Earlocker that they had been assigned stables stablesClaims Claims were deposited in the secretarys office yesterday following the running of the last race for B T Zollicoffers Citizen W M Cain and M Grant deposited claims and the latter drew him himStewards Stewards of the Hamilton Jockey Club decided that in races here no jockey could ride against his contract employer that started a horse in the same race raceShaun Shaun Gilmartin in charge of the mutuel depart ¬ ment at Fort Erie was an arrival today busily en ¬ gaged straightening out the final ends for the com ¬ ing meeting meetingWashington Washington Xorvell secretary of the Kenilworth Jockey Club was busy in the paddock soliciting entries for the stakes to be decided there Mr Norvell reports that over 100 horses are quartered on the grounds while there is a like number at Windsor WindsorWord Word was received today that it has been decided to remodel Kempton Park at Montreal It is at present a halfmile track which will be enlarged to one mile
