BEST PAL IS VICTORIOUS Wins a Capital Race with Fleet Marjorie Hynes Second Bill and Coo Also Takes a Race Racefor for Owner Bradley Virgo VirgoFirst First but Disqualified LATONIA Ky June 28 Todays 2000 mile and a sixteenth handicap attracted a field that was equal to any that has competed in rich stakes at this meeting and it was productive of as keen in trest Best Pal was victor but he had to do his t est to outstay the vastly improved and consistent Marjorie Hynes with another sturdy one Jouett just getting up for third place placeUnlike Unlike in his last previous race Lyke kept Best Pal restrained until he was fully settled for the stretch racing where he called on him an the Bradley representative parted company with the others and won comfortably although before reach ¬ ing the finish Lyke found it necessary to apply his whip sharply several times to make the colt keep on at his best pace Marjorie Hynes had also been saved in the early running and found it dif ¬ ficult for a brief period to weave her way through but she found an opening in the last eighth and set in swift pursuit of the winner The entire field with the exception of Sands of Pleasure was closely grouped until in the last eighth where there was a general dropping back particularly by the early pacemakers In preparation for his race next Mon ¬ day in the Independence Handicap Sands of Pleasure was worked out the additional distance to a mile and a half If he runs then like he didpday ho mtehtraK well be kept in hiastrible The fourth race brought about the first dis ¬ qualification of the meeting when Virgo was set back for Pools action in striking British Liner a strong contender at the time across the head causing him to lose ground The incident came in the last seventy yards of the race in plain view of the spectators Virgo had been the leader from the start with British Liner attending Him closely The pair joined by Pit near the end were fighting it out closely when Pool resorted to his whip and landed it across British Liners head The Pendergast representative with the feel of the lash threw his head up and dropped back almost losing second place Virgo in the meantime kept on and being of the belief that British Liner would have won but for Pools action the stewards disqualified Virgo gave the purse to British Liner and Pit second place Miss Nell which had landed fourth was moved into third place Pool was suspended for ten days This precludes his riding here for the remainder of the meeting meetingThe The E R Bradley stable made it n double for the afternoon with the victory of Kill and Coo in the second race a fiveeighths sprint for maiden twoyearold fillies She was much the best and overcame interference Bill and Coo is a sister of Best Pal both being by Helmet Vadula She raced promisingly and drew away with ease in the stretch to win from Marimba and Scandal ScandalRAIN RAIN FALLS DURING LAST RACE RACEA A brisk shower before race time tempered the atmosphere here noticeably but in no wise affected the track for good time was the rule in almost all of the races In the sixth race came another down ¬ pour which sent the big crowd
