MOTOR COP MEETS DEFEAT Too Much Weight and Dull Track Bring Downfall of Top Heavy Favorite HAMILTON Out June 28 The Burlington Handicap a dash of threequarters fashioned for threeyearolds and over was offered as the feature attraction at the Hamilton course this afternoon and resulted in the biggest upset of the spring season in Canada when Motor Cop finished behind Sewell Combs and By Jiminy The time for the race was extremely slow the distance being run in 115 which for the class of horses running wts entirely too slow The rain storm which visited the track during the course of the night served more to deaden the going than turn it into a slow one oneOf Of the carded eleven named for the feature race six refused and Motor Cop was installed a top heavy choice There was a slight delay at the post and contrary to his usual practice Motor Cop was away last Sewell Combs was the ono to set the pace for the entire way and won going away at the end There might have been a different story to tell had Motor Cop got away in a forward position as he was pretty well used up overtaking the lead ¬ ers and quit badly under his heavy impost in the final eighth eighthBig Big fields paraded in each race and the majority of tlie winners had safe margins at the end endSpills Spills and thrills came aplenty with the running of the Barton Steeplechase fashioned for maiden fouryearolds and over Abdul fell at a jump in front of the stand and rolled over jockey Fricker The latter was knocked out but recovered in the jockeys inclosure Woodruff and Nonus also un ¬ seated tlieir riders At the conclusion of the last fence instead of turning into the straightaway Bee ¬ hive continued around the course but was taken up and finished The race was won by Baronet with McCorburn and Sweet Colleen finishing second and third respectively respectivelyA A dash fashioned for maiden jockeys astride Canadianljreds was carded as the third race In this F Parrington graduated from the nonwinning ranks when he steered Oakling home in front Huntleys effort on Gallipot was one of the poorest exhibitions and caused his downfalL Despite tye tUiwteidnj jimU sfioweryweatirer another trowd of record proportions was on hand to witness the running of todays program programJockey Jockey G Walls was forced to cancel his engage ¬ ments this afternoon due to an attack of illness illnessFred Fred Richard of the Dorval Jockey Club departed for Montreal today after attending the Canadian Racing Associations meeting yesterday Mr Richard is enthusiastic over the prospects for the next meet ¬ ing at Dorval DorvalFollowing Following the running of the last race yesterday Citizen was led to a new stable vja the claiming route Jj A Seregni who was represented in the race by Mountain Rose II securing him himMiller Miller Henderson and M C Kelly will ship from here to Windsor to take part in racing at that point pointJ J W Healy acting for J Lumsden sold to Allen Bullcroft at private terms the twoyearold Brodie BrodieIma Ima Frank which is still a useful racing tool was at one time almost destroyed The mare ran into a barb wire fence while on the farm and cut herself in a severe manner about the chest and legs The wounds were healed up and an attempt was made to breed her without success As a last resort it was decided to again attempt to race her and she walked from the farm to Beuniiig a dis ¬ tance of some twelve miles and was turned over to Mike Kelly who was successful in getting her into racing condition
