The iiiinual meeting of the Saratoga Racing Association opens Monday, August 1, and continues throughout the entire month of August. Richly endowed by nature and further embellished by the handiwork of man, Saratoga each year attracts the beauty and wealth of the nation, giving it a prestige enjoyed by no other race course in this country. That is also true of the horse. The best of the East, West, South and Canada meet there to settle the supremacy of the year. The great array of time-honored and valuable stake races are primarily the means of bringing together these aristocrats and giants of the turf. Richest of these fixtures is the Hopeful for two-ycar-ohU, with its guaranteed value of 0,000, for which one hundred and forty-eight juveniles, out of an original nomi-li-ition of two hundred and forty-five, still remain eligible. Nearly all of the most promising two-year-olds of the year are among them. The old-established Travers Stakes is next in value, with 12,500 guaranteed. The United States Hotel, Alabama and Grand Union Hotel Stakes each have 0,000 guaranteed, and the Saratoga Special will equal, if not surpass, that amount.
