PROPOSED FRENCH WEIGHT . SCALE PARIS, August 5. French racing associations have announced for next year a series of high-weight races which are attracting much interest among breeders. One breeder of the Basses-Pyra-nees has advanced a proposal for a change from the old weight system for these races. He proposes that the old system of handicapping, which comprised light, medium and heavy weight allowances, be scrapped and three categories substituted, as follows: 1. For tour-year-olds, 154 pounds; for five-year-olds and over, ll!! pounds. 2. For four-year-olds, 170 pounds; for five-year-olds and over. 1SS pounds. 3. For four-year-olds, 19S pounds; for five-year-olds and over, 210 pounds. He would allow the owner to decide under which category his horse should run, having it understood that the same horse could be shifted from one category to another as the owner wished. . This system would apply to cross-eountry races for four-yea r-old and ovvr, with penalties ac- cruing according to amounts won.
