BRILLIANT JESTER IS VICTOR Captures Cadillac Hotel Purse, Opening Day Feature at Kenilworth Park. WINDSOR, Out., October 5. The opening of the Kenilworth meeting this afternoon marked the beginning of the end of the 1921 racing season in Canuda on the tracks of the Canadian Racing Associations. It was an ideal autumn afternoon and a large gathering of Detroiters took advantage of the pleasant weather to witness the running of the really good card. The piece de resistance was the Cadillac Hotel Purse, a dash of a mile and an eighth with an added value of ,000. The Seagram Stable furnished the winner in the imported colt Brilliant Jester, which came from behind after Star Realm ran out to win by a scant length from Goaler. Padua was third six lengths back and a nose in front of Star Realm. Bower was unable to keep the latter in and he ran out at all of the turns going to the outside fence entering the homestretch. The attendance was up to the standard of the opening day of the summer meeting and speculation was keen. It was a tight fit between Kuklnx and Auntie Slay in the fourth race, with the winner in doubt until the official placing was displayed. McTag-gart rode a desperate finish on Kuklux and just managed to get him up in the closing stride. Some Baby bled in las nice and was pulled up. A stirring finish maked the decision of the inaugural dash. Bengore, under Jockey C. Langs vigorous riding, gained the verdict by a narrow margin, defeating Musito in the last strides of a long and hard fought stretch duel. It was nip and tuck between the pair all the way and the result in doubt to the end. Vanessa Welles, the favorite, ran poorly and was always outrun. Public fancy centered on Commander J. K. L. Ross Sudor in the second race, a contest at one mile and seventy yards for horses foaled in Canada. He proved a big disappointment and, after a brief display of early speed, quit badly in the last quarter. In the meantime Yowell closely followed Heath Bell, the pacemaker, until after rounding the last turn, where lje moved.- liito-.lhelead and. easily held sway to. tin? end. Anmiit was second, a neck ahead of June Fly. The Brookdale Stable has decided to- retire the mares Anmut and Woodbine. They will be shipped back to the farm and next spring Anmut will be bred to Heresy and Woodbine to another stallion. FINAL MEETING FOR SEAGRAM STABLE. The Seagram Stable will go into winter quarters at the conclusion of the Kenilworth meeting. There are six yearlings at the Waterloo Farm, four by the imported stallion Besant, one by St. Amant and another by Ypsilanti. The imported four-year-old mare Mode, by Lemberg Mini, will be put in training next spring. She did not ship well from England and no attempt was made to train her this fall. Mr. Edward Seagram came over from Toronto to witness Brilliant Jesters race in the Cadillac Hotel Purse this afternoon. Frank Navin was a visitor at Kenilworth this afternoon. It is the first time in eighteen years that he missed a world series ball game. Arthur Brent disposed of the mare Pawnee II., by Yankee Tee Pee, to WL C. Weant, who will ship her to Kentucky and breed her to Moss Fox II. next spring. The grooms sent in a petition to the management asking that grandstand badges be issued to them. The club was unable to accede to their request as the government permits grandstand badges to be Issued only to actual owners on account of the war tax. Fred Schelke announced that his employers had decided not to nice any of their horses in the winter, which means that the string will go into wirter quarters next week. Track superintendent J. Southard had the course in excellent condition and the going was faster than ever. Jockeys Erickson and Harbcurne accompanied the division of the J. K. L. Rosa stable shipped from Toronto. These horses will be sent to the farm at Laurel, Maryland, next week. Wm. Martin filled the two positions of paddock and patrol judge.
