HA VRE DE GRA CES GREA T MEETING SPRING RA CING A T HARFORD COUNTY TRA CK IMMENSE ¬ LY SUCCESSFUL J K L ROSS LEADS TEE WIN ¬ NING OWNERS BONIFACE THE EORSES AND C LANG THE JOCKEYS The spring meeting at the picturesque Havre de Grace course from April 15 to April 29 was immensely successful both from a racing and a financial standpoint The Harford Agricultural and Breeders Association distributed 142428 in stakes and purses during the thirteen days of racing during which time ninetyone races were run and the daily average distribution amounted to 1 J956 Large fields were the general rule and the class of the horses was above the ordinary The Philadelphia Handicap furnished the outstanding racing thrill of the meeting when the two veteran gladiators the gallant Exterminator and the courageous Boniface staged a spectacular duel the lastnamed emerging triumphant after a brilliant contest Keen was the rivalry between the J K L Ross stable and that of H P Whitney for the leading honors of the meeting Both won the same number of races finished sec ¬ ond the same number of times but the Ross horses secured third money five times to one for H P Whitney This gave the Ross sta ¬
