QU1NCY STABLES VICTORY Frank G Carries Its Colors Suc ¬ cessfully in Pimlico Nursery J K L Eoss Stable Scores a Dou ¬ ble with Registrar and HMur Bad Weather BALTIMORE Md May 3 The Quincy Stable accounted for the fourteenth running of the Pimlico Nursery one of the annual spring fixtures offered by the Maryland Jock ¬ ey Club when Frank G a son of Ultimus Sweet Day outlasted Wrangle by a head Carol a stablemate of Frank G was third The stake is for entire colts and fillies and it furnished one of the best contests of the afternoon The start found the Quincy pair away forwardly and setting a fast pace for the field to follow Jolly Wrangle and Mark Twain were closest in pursuit of the leaders while Felicitous raced greenly Entering the stretch turn Frank G hugged the inside rail while Carol went wide Wrangle came with a rush between the pair but Ponce kept hustling Frank G and he just lasted to earn the verdict The race was run in 531 but onefifth of a second slower than the track record established by Lord Baltimore last spring The race was worth 2150 to the winner winnerShowery Showery and threatening conditions pre ¬ vailed for this afternoons racing but despite the unpleasant situation a crowd of goodly proportions was on hand to witness the sport The track suffered but little from the early showers but became slower as the downpour which set in during the fourth race con ¬ tinued tinuedA A band of six faced the starter in the opening dash of the afternoon which called for horses to be ridden by maiden jockeys Joan of Arc with S Pilsner up was the winner from Vendor and Trickster II Ven ¬ dor went to the front with a rush and drew away into a long lead followed by Trickster II and Billy Lane Rounding the far turn Joan of Arc moved up and in a mild drive shook off Vendor while the latter had a good lead over Triclcster II IISTEEPLECHASE STEEPLECHASE TO FREE STATE STATEThe The Mount Washington Steeplechase at two miles brought out a field of five and only two negotiated the course successfully The winner turned up in J W Healeys Free State which easily triumphed over Last Man The winner drew into the lead when Over ¬ match fell at the twelfth jump The race was productive of a spirited dash until robbed of contention by the tails Gimme was the early pacemaker and he was pursued by Overmatch while Free State was racing well up while Nonus brought up the rear Gimme unseated his rider at the ninth jump and Overmatch and Last Man went to the front while Williams made his move on the winner There was no change in the posi ¬ tions until the twelfth jump Last Man made a determined bid but could not get to the winner Overmatch was remounted and fin ¬ ished the course courseThe The colors of E B McLean were carried to victory in the third race of the after ¬ noon which attracted a rather poor band of maidens when Cotrompa staggered home ahead of Buddugie and Richard Murray The etart found them leaving the barrier in good alignment with the exception of Patchwork Cotrompa outran her opponents and drew away into a long lead but was tiring fast through the final sixteenth of a mile Bud ¬ dugie took second place while Richard Mur ¬ ray was third a short margin ahead of Patchwork PatchworkThe The J K L Ross stable scored its daily victory when Registrar emerged triumphant In the Rennert Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth easily defeating Dresden and Bril ¬ liant Jester the only other starters The winner was ridden by Turner and made all the pace and ran the distance in 1 145 but onefifth of a second slower than the track record recordHLLDUR HLLDUR DEFEATS POLLY ANN ANNHildur Hildur completed a double for the Ross stable when Turner guided him home a wide margin ahead of Polly Ann and Caligula The winner was away forwardly went to the front with a rush and set a fast pace for the others to follow Caligula attempted to keep up with the Ross starter but tired and gave way to Polly Ann in the final eighth eighthThe The largest field of the afternoon faced the barrier in the closing dash and Ultra Gold got up in the final strides to win from Hid ¬ den Jewel The latter was the pacemaker and
