AUSTRIAS RACING TAXATION Racing In Austria Is In danger of being taxed out of existence Although 450000000 crowns were bet at the parimutuel at the opening meeting the Jockey Club is faced with a deficit of nearly two millions The tax imposed by the state on the mutuols amounted to more than 70000000 while the Vienna municipal authorities claim a tax of 10000000 on the entrance money It is feared that In view of fiscal insatiability the efforts of the Jockey Club committee and secretary to keep racing going will be in vain vainFor For dollar sums three naughts can be taken off all the totals as the Austrian crown averaged a little over onetenth of a cent for the year But even such totals are enormous and out of proportion as rac ¬ ing taxation
