OTTAWAS OPENING PROGRAM Lord Byng and Other Notables NotablesAmong Among Large Crowd at atConnaught Connaught Park OTTAWA OnL May 30 Ottawa wel ¬ comed racing this afternoon in a wholeheart ¬ ed manner and graced by the presence of His Excellency Lord Byng of Vimy gover ¬ norgeneral of Canada a crowd of large pro ¬ portions was present at Connaught Park to witness the running of the seven races that made up the initial program The weather conditions could hardly have been improved upon being of midsummer variety and the track was in fast condition conditionThe The plant a picturesque one presented a pleasing appearance while the lawns and stands held their quota of gaily attired wom ¬ en which contrasted in bold relief with the somber garments of the men The clubhouse was the scene of many parties in which men prominent in the financial and political world of Canada forgot for the afternoon their duties and enjoyed an afternoon of i acing acingThe The feature attraction of the afternoon was the Jubilee Purse which brought together a wellmatched band of sprinters to go three quarters A field of six faced the starter with Edward F Whitneys Caretaker the popular choice Chloris carrying the colors of A V Thomas was returned the winner in n drive from Sangrado with Caretaker third The winner was ridden by Chalmers came from behind the pace established by Care ¬ taker and was going away at the end The start was a good one but before the field had gone many yards Affectation was shut off and Claver was forced to take her up Caretaker displayed the most early speed and raced into a safe lead Chloris was rac ¬ ing in second position on the outside whila Affectation found clear sailing next to the inner rail and was in third position while the remainder of the field was some dis ¬ tance back Entering the stretch Chloris was sent to the front with a rush and shook off Caretaker while Affectation began to tire from her early efforts Sangrado closed fast under punishment and though gaining on the winner could not overtake her Care ¬ taker was beaten for second place by a neck neckKTATJGUBA1 KTATJGUBA1 TO WRECKER WRECKERThe The opening race of the afternoon a dash of threequarters resulted in victory for W H Coopers Wrecker in a drive from Glenn with Franc Tireur third The winner was ridden by Turner who saved his mount be ¬ hind the pace set by Glenn The latter was a forward factor for the entire distance only giving way in the final seventy yards when the winner drew alongside Franc Tireur came from a long way back and took the small end of the purse by a short margin marginArendal Arendal scored an easy victory in the run ¬ ning of the Oxford Purse which was con ¬ tested by a small band of twoyearolds Car ¬ men Pantages was second with Seths Lemon third The winner was ridden by ErSckson and displayed good speed throughout raced the heavily backed favorite into defeat and drew clear through the final sixteenth sixteenthRex Rex Gaiety scored another victory in the sixth race for Canadianbreds at a mile and sercnty yards in a drive from Blarney Boy and Kings Court The winner was rid ¬ den by Anderson and came from behind to win by a short margin Rex Gaiety was in early difficulties but as the race was run proved much the best Blarney Boy estab ¬ lished the early pace but gave way to Kings Court entering the stretch while Rex Gaiety was forced to come around the leaders leadersWilliam William Martin patrol judge on the Can ¬ adian tracks last year announced this morn ¬ ing that he would open up a public training stable and race over the Canadian circuit circuitAFTEB AFTEB CONSTANCY FILLY FILLYMontfort Montfort Jones has written to J K Lu Ross requesting him to place a price upon the Sir Barton Constancy filly which is now at Berryville Va The filly is said to be a good looker and is the first offspring of both noted performers Mr Ross has so far re ¬ fused to set a figure upon the filly fillyThe The Canadianbred
