ANOTHER FOR MAINMAST E F Whitneys Superman Colt ColtScores Scores His Fourth Straight StraightVictory Victory at Connaught Park OTTAWA OnL June 1 Edward F Whit ¬ neys Mainmast the chestnut fouryearold son of Superman Masthead scored an im ¬ pressive victory in the Whirlaway Handicap which featured the card at Connaught Park this afternoon Lion dOr took second place while the Seagram starter Redstone was third Mainmast continued his triumphs which began at Havre de Grace and todays success was his fourth consecutive one In winning todays race ho was forced to under ¬ go a hard drive but established a new track record for the threequarters distance of 1 12 12A A field of four faced the starter with Lion dOr the popular choice From a good start Lion dOr went to the front with a rush and set a fast pace for the others to follow Mainmast raced in second position with Red ¬ stone third while Keltic the remaining starter was some distance back The Ross sprinter was still holding a brief advantage while Mainmast was xinder pressure entering the stretch and Redstone began to drop back In a grueling finish Mainmast got up in the final strides to win by a short head The victory was a popular one with Ottawas crowd crowdThe The old track record of threequarters held jointly by Pan Zarcta and Sailing B was 1 l and was bettered by twofifths of a second Mainmast was second choice in the mutuels and netted a good sized divi ¬ dend for the usual investment investmentRain Rain which visited this locality last eve ¬ ning worked wonders with the going and todays track was the best of the meeting The card which was made up of small fields engaged wellmatched fields and spirited rac ¬ ing prevailed prevailedTrainer Trainer W A Burttschell was much in the limelight and saddled two winners during the afternoon Meuse and Titania The for ¬ mer just lasted to nose out Reluctant while Titania was winner of the threequarters dash calling for maiden jockeys in which J Peychurd graduated from the maiden ranks when he was home first by a short neck in front of the fastclosing Titania The latter dominated the running throughout throughoutJockey Jockey Gantner departed for New York this evening but will return to Blue Bonnets to ride for the Brookdale Stable StableGeorge George Choos filly Sophia Goldman de ¬ veloped an attack of illness this morning and was excused from starting in the second race On the conclusion of this meeting the pad ¬ dock will be remodeled The stalls will be placed in the center with the promenade ring on the outside of the stalls This improve ¬ ment will add much to the convenience of the plant
