June 3 II II Hewitts good filly Startle which figured prominently last 7ear as the winner of some of the lead ¬ ing Kentucky stakes was crowned queen of her division this afternoon by her splendid vic ¬ tor in the Kentucky Oaks worth D920 net Martha Fallon recently transferred to the Jef ¬ ferson Livingston stable vas the runnerup and Precious Lula running in vastly im ¬ proved form over her last previous race landed third Margaret Winsor finished fourth and saved her entrance and starting fees feesStartle Startle was mistress of the situation from the start but was forced to give her best for Martha Fallen was pressing her hard during the entire race and momentarily would pass into the lead only to succumb again and give way to the Hewitt fillys command In the last sixteenth she tired and this al ¬ lowed Startle to win by a scant length Martha Fallen under strong riding just suc ceedd in outfinishing Precious Lula The latter was far back in the early running but moved up suddenly after going a half mile and was a real menace in the stretch and had the race been at a longer distance she would have probably won for she was running better than the leaders at the finish The disappointment in the race was Bonus The Greentree Stable connections had fig ¬ ured extensively on winning the Oaks with her and had sent Lyke here to ride her but she was badly wanting after she had
