rampant though showing a decline Those owners whose horses have come through the attack of influenza are re ¬ luctant to send them into contests too hur ¬ riedly fearing an after effect Races listed in the program bock have had to be called off repeatedly and substituted ones have been fashioned to fit available racers regardless of what class it would bring cut Of course quality has been aimed at but it has been a case of missing both quality and quantity The fields today were again of the small variety and with the exception of the initial dash the starters were of ordinary caliber caliberThe The intended feature dash a mile offering had to be declared off when it was found that three cf the entered ones were not eligi ¬ ble und2r its conditions to start in the race The substitute to complete the seven races was a mie and seventy yards dash in which a field of eight started startedBraedaibane Braedaibane one of the mainstays in the Desha Breckinridge stable continued the per ¬ fect score here for this stable when he landed the opener There have been three starters from the stable since the opening Naughty Nisba Lady Madcap and Braedaibane and each has won in race horse style styleHELD HELD IJf HIGH BEGARD BEGARDBraedaibane Braedaibane was held in high regard the weight of special money causing him to rule at the shortest price of any starter this rac ¬ ing season on a Kentucky track His back ¬ ers experienced some anxiety during tne early running when Jeanne Bowdre took command and had Braedaibane at his best pace to keep close in proximity to her Garner was forced to apply his whip on the Breckinridge representative when straight ¬ ened away in the stretch and it was not until about the last eighth that he succeeded in heading Jeanne Bowdre Finally he won handily Jeanne Bowdre landing second place from Dorothy Buckner BucknerMaiden Maiden twoyearolds furnished the con ¬ test in the second race and it resulted in a lucky victory for Macbeth a first time starter running in the colors of Lloyd Gen ¬ try which triumphed over Taylor Hay Mayor Carrel landed in third place placeJockey Jockey W Tool whose work during the previous two days has come in for con ¬ siderable notice on account of his rail rid ¬ ing custom fared adversely this afternoon through this method He was astride sev ¬ eral horses that seemingly were best but inability to get through next to the inner rail and his refusal to come around the others proved the undoing of his mounts He was astride Jordan in the third race and that colt at no time until straightened away in the stretch had an opportunity to race at full speed Brass Tacks won this race somewhat easily from Casey with Fred Kinncy in third place placeCBOWDIIfG CBOWDIIfG IN SUBSTITUTE RACE RACECountess Countess in the substitute dash suffered considerably from crowding in the early run ¬ ning and when the youngster finally decided to come around the race was virtually safe for The Wit Countess coming with a rush barely failed in overhauling Troilus for sec ¬ ond place placeGourmand Gourmand scored his first purse since leav ¬ ing New Orleans when he won the sixth race after having closed an immense gap in the stretch drive Balance Wheel finished second and Virgo third thirdA A N Akin enabled E Trotter to annex his first purse of the meeting It also brought about the loss of the old standby of the owner as he was claimed claimedThreatening Threatening weather and the ordinary card did not seem to affect the attendance which was again large and seemed to enjoy the sport immensely immenselyThe The application of Ted Shearn for a train ¬ ers license was disapproved by the stewards today An order was also issued directing Shearn to vacate his stalls and depriving him
